Minister of Foreign Affairs Sameh Shoukry met on Sunday with head of intelligence services in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) Kalev Mutand during his visit to Cairo.

Mutand will deliver a letter from Congolese president Joseph Kabila on the internal situation in the DRC to President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi, according to spokesperson for the ministry Ahmed Abou Zaid.

The Congolese official started the meeting by thanking the minister for receiving him, expressing how happy he is to be in Egypt.

He reviewed the situation in DRC and the government’s efforts to hold elections in the country, as well as international efforts in this regard.

Shoukry was keen to follow up on the internal situation in DRC. He affirmed that Egypt is pleased to see stability in the country, adding that Egypt has confident in the wisdom of president Kabila and his ability to maintain the country and prevent it from slipping into instability again.

The minister called on the Congolese side to communicate with all international parties and explain their efforts in achieving internal stability.

The meeting also discussed bilateral cooperation between the two countries, and Egypt’s willingness to implement the mandates issued by the two presidents after their meeting in Kigali during the recent African Summit, as well as cooperation between the two sides in the field of training army and police forces.
