Cairo hotel confirms death of in-house guest, says it’s cooperating with police

Body of an Italian woman who allegedly committed suicide, was found near hotel


The Conrad Hotel in Cairo confirmed on Sunday the death of an in-house guest, following media reports that claimed the body of an Italian women, who allegedly committed suicide, was found near the hotel close to the Nile River.

“With deep regret, we confirm that a guest has died at Conrad Cairo. We also confirm that the police are investigating the matter and we are fully cooperating with them. The well-being and security of our guests are of paramount importance and the Conrad continues to make every effort to ensure that all standards are in line with strict safety and security regulations,” the hotel’s administration said in a statement to Daily News Egypt.

A security source at the Cairo Security Directorate reportedly told state-owned newspaper Al-Ahram on Sunday that the woman committed suicide by jumping from her hotel room, which was on the 13th floor.

The source further revealed that eyewitnesses described the deceased woman as an “introvert”, saying that she refused to let housekeepers into her room, according to investigations carried out under the supervision of Cairo Investigation Bureau director Abdul Aziz Khedr.

Moreover, the woman reportedly had not left her hotel room since 15 August. The police claimed to have found her diary, in which the woman claimed she was suffering from depression.
