MP Al-Sadat faces parliamentary investigations on Thursday afternoon: media officer

Former head of Human Rights Committee has been accused of leaking a copy of the draft NGO law to foreign embassies

Former head of the parliament’s Human Rights Committee Mohamed Anwar Al-Sadat will face internal investigations on Thursday at 4pm, his media office said. He requested that his statements be recorded officially during the investigations and that another member of parliament attends with him.

The parliament referred MP Al-Sadat to investigations on Saturday over accusations that he had leaked a copy of a draft NGO law to foreign embassies while it was still under discussion among parliamentary members.

The MP denied the accusations. He has been facing trouble over several issues inside the parliament, specifically conflicts with Parliamentary Speaker Ali Abdul Aal, claiming that those were the real reasons for his subsequent prosecution.

Al-Sadat resigned from the leadership of the committee after claiming that the parliament was not supportive to human rights issues and was trying to restrict the committee’s moves in discussing legislation, such as the Protest Law and the Churches Construction law.
