Deputy head of the parliament’s Industry Committee, Mohamed El-Zeiny, said that the committee received memorandums of automobile manufacturers that have attended previous discussions with members of parliament (MPs) presenting their suggestions about the draft law of the automotive development strategy.

He added that the committee held another meeting last week with some of the industry players who will submit their proposals on Sunday to begin the final round of negotiations before discussing the law.

Volkswagen has delivered its observations on the draft law, underlining the need to waive categorisation according to engine capacities and replace it with categories according to size and engine power in kilowatts and horsepower.

The company said in its memo submitted to the parliament that the incentive proportion provided in Article VI of the bill is very large, which will lead importers out of the market.

The parliament’s Industry Committee had previously met outside the parliament with representatives of companies like Volkswagen, Seat, Kia Motors, Brilliance, and Auto Gameel—dealership for Ford and Daihatsu. The meeting was also attended by representatives of the auto-parts supply industries.

The participants agreed to present the memorandum, including their suggestions on importing provisions in the draft law.
