The pilot version of the Egyptian portal “Expo Egypt” will be launched in the current month, according to Minister of Trade and Industry Tarek Kabil.

Kabil said that the portal will serve as an electronic platform containing studies and information on foreign markets and will be a virtual market to link exporters with importers. He also said that a number of logistics centres would be developed for targeted markets and will complete the activities of Green Trade Initiative (GTI) to create leading brands of agricultural products for promotion in foreign markets.

“Export capacity building services will be expanded to include export coaching, export planning, and the development of a new regional exporters’ service centre to provide technical support and training services to exporters. In addition, new training programmes will be developed in the field of foreign trade to serve Egyptian companies and support their efforts to access foreign markets,” the minister added.

Sherine El Shorbagi, CEO of Export Development Authority, said that the authority intensified its activities last year through three axes, including export development policies, international cooperation, export promotion, and export capacity building.

El Shorbagi added that the first axis included the development of exports and international cooperation, where all export steps and procedures were monitored in cooperation with the program to promote trade and local markets in order to simplify the procedures necessary to complete the export process and coordinate with the concerned parties.

El Shorbagi noted that the second axis included the promotion of Egyptian exports, where the new controls for participation in promotional activities from foreign exhibitions and trade missions were finalised.

She pointed out that a proposal for organising weekly commercial promotion campaigns for Egyptian products in Africa was completed in several countries, such as Kenya, Uganda, Nigeria, Ivory Coast, Senegal, and Tanzania, in order to open new markets for Egyptian products.

The third axis included the building of export capacities, where 115 training courses were held for about 8,000 trainees in a number of training fields on trade agreements and the WTO, unified customs system, payment mechanisms, import services, and import controls.
