ACUD offers tender for management of solid waste in New Capital

Company liaised with ministry of petroleum to set up first district cooling system in NAC

The Administrative Capital for Urban Development (ACUD) has completed the preparation of a booklet which includes the conditions, as well as the terms and specifications, in order to offer a tender on solid waste management in the New Administrative Capital (NAC).The tender will be launched during the first quarter of this year, while the actual work will begin with the start of the flow of inhabitants to the Capital.

The ACUD said that it adopted special specifications in accordance with the highest international standards, and set these conditions and adapted them in order to suit Egypt’s operating costs.

The company explained that the solid waste management project and the cleaning process in the NAC will include a sorting and a storage unit, as well as a power station to convert the waste into electricity, and will be connected to the public network according to the world’s latest technology.

Furthermore, the company pointed out that the new project covers all the minor details in order to avoid problems which previously occurred with foreign companies who were working in Egypt. The project is also integrated with smaller recycling projects which are financed by the Micro, Small and Medium Enterprise Development Authority, thereby providing about 1,200 new and permanent job opportunities.

Moreover, the ACUD spokesperson, Khaled El Hosseini, stated that the company has taken serious steps to develop the NAC’s infrastructure.

El Hosseini further elaborated that the ACUD will sign a partnership agreement with Mastercard in order to provide the New Capital with electronic payments and build a non-monetary economy, through supplying the appropriate systems and solutions which are compatible with the citizen’s culture, and encouraging them to use e-payments.

Regarding the efforts taken by the ACUD to develop an advanced technological infrastructure within the New Capital, the company has signed a contract with the ministry of petroleum and mineral resources in early December in order to establish the first district cooling system in the NAC.

The first phase of the cooling system will be implemented within a year with an EGP 2.5bn in investments. The project is the biggest in Egypt, and is considered a technological leap in the history of Egypt, according to El Hosseini.
